SIG-Sauer P229 subcompact pistol is a relatively new product of the US-based branch of the international SIG-Sauer corporation. It is intended primary as a deep concealed carry weapon for law enforcement officers and ordinary citizens alike, for situations where minimal size and light weight are of essence. Despite its small size, P290 packs decent stopping power thanks to worlds’ most popular handgun caliber, the 9×19 Luger / Parabellum.

P290 is a semi-automatic pistol with double action only trigger and external spur-less hammer. It has a number of internal safeties, but no manual safeties are present. It uses modified Browning-type locking system with short recoiling barrel that tips down to unlock from the slide, using cam-shaped cut below the breech. Frame of the P290 pistol is made from polymer, slide is made from stainless steel. Ammunition is fed from single stack box magazines. Standard capacity is 6 rounds, extended 8-round magazines are available as option. All versions are equipped with fixed, SIGLITE sights with luminous inserts which are especially useful under low light conditions.
