Yirtici 7.62 Sniper Rifle

“Yirtici” (Predator) 7.62mm sniper rifle is produced under Azerbaijani Ministry of Defense Industry MODIAR. It was first showcased to the public during International Defense Exhibition IDEX-2015 in Abu-Dhabi, UAE. It is of indigenous design and manufacture, and is intended to replace aging Soviet-era Dragunov SVD sniper rifles in use with military and police of Azerbaijan. Interestingly enough, this weapon also retains Soviet-era 7.62x54R ammunition, which is probably still plentiful and easily obtainable in this former Soviet republic.

Yirtici sniper rifle is a gas operated, semi-automatic weapon which utilizes rotary bolt locking. Rifle is somewhat unusual for this class as it uses massive stamped steel receiver with integrated Picatinny rail on the top. Rifle is equipped with charging handle that can be installed on either side of the receiver, and with ambidextrous manual safety levers. Aluminum alloy forend carries additional Picatinny rails for installation of ancillary equipment such as bipods or IR/NV adapters. Ammunition is fed from highly reliable 10-round SVD-type detachable box magazines. Rifle is equipped with side-folding shoulder stock that has adjustable buttpad and adjustable cheek rest.
