The Accuracy International AX50 anti-material rifle is intended for military applications such as long range sniping and anti-materiel work. It’s based on the very well regarded AW50 (Arctic Warfare .50) model from the same company. Accuracy International is an English manufacturer of high grade sniper rifles, in business since 1985.
This rifle is a manually operated, rotary bolt action rifle. Ammunition is fed from detachable box magazines. AI AX50 rifles feature a steel receiver which is bolted to the aluminum alloy chassis with fully adjustable and side-folding shoulder stock with extendable ground support. It also features a 27″ stainless steel barrel with a 1/15 twist.
Day or night sights are installed using an integral Picatinny rail above the receiver. The free-floated barrel is enclosed into the aluminum forend which sports a patented ‘Keyslot’ mounting system and additional Picatinny rails.
The bolt is ‘short throw’ (small travelling distance) and the 60° handle is conveniently sited above the trigger guard. A simple ‘two position’ safety system locks the bolt when in open position, blocking the firing pin. ‘Fire’ position on the selector switch only works when the bolt is closed.
No information is provided about the rifle’s accuracy by the manufacturer, but with the proper ammunition it can be expected to be 1 MOA or better.
