The VR1 Semi-Automatic Precision Sniper Rifle (PSR) ismanufactured in USA by Vigilance Rifles, an independent gun-makingcompany. This rifle is one of the very few semi-automatic riflesproduced to fire specially designed powerful long range ammunition suchas .338 Lapua Magnum (8.7x69mm) and .408 Chey-tac (10.3x77mm). Theserounds generate muzzle energies ranging from about 6,500 Joules(.338LM) to 11,300 Joules (.408CT), and that is about 2 to 3 times moreenergy than is generated by the most common 7.62×51 NATO / .308 Winround, used in most semi-automatic sniper rifles today, and about 1/3to 2/3 of the muzzle energy generated by much bigger .50BMG round. Withsuchballistic characteristics, this rifle nicely fills the niche betweenlight, rapid-firing (semi-automatic) sniper rifles in 7.62mm caliber(which have limited capabilities against material targets, heavy bodyarmor and limited range) and heavy, powerful 12.7mm / .50 caliberanti-material rifles which have great destruction potential but usuallyare too big and heavy (average weight is 14 kg / 30lbs) for rapiddeployment and maneuver warfare. TheVR1 rifles also can be used by civilian shooters for long-range targetshooting and long-range / big game hunting (for this purpose, theextra-powerful big-game caliber .505 Gibbs is available for VR1). Withproper .338 or .408 caliber ammunitionmanufacturer claims accuracy of 1 MOA at 600 yards and maximumeffective range extends up to a mile (~1600 meters).

The VR1 Semi-Automatic Precision Sniper Rifle is gas-operatedsemi-automatic rifle. It utilizes short-stroke gas piston, locatedbelow the barrel. Locking is achieved by rotary bolt with three radiallocking lugs. Rifle is of modular design, with compact upper receivermade of stainless steel and lower receiver made of lightweight alloy.Rifle can be disassembled without any special tools in about 60seconds; after basic disassembly, user can replace upper receiver /barrel assembly and bolt to change caliber as necessary. Heavy profilematch-grade barrels are fluted and fitted with titanium muzzle brakes. Two part stock is made from laminated wood and is available in avariety of finishes. Removable trigger unit has adjustable trigger pulland is fitted with conveniently located ambidextrous safety. Sightingequipment is installed using integral Picatinny rail on the upperreceiver; no iron sights are provided by default. Front part of theforend is provided with the mounting point for a detachable foldingbipod.
