TheFNAR tactical / sniper rifle was first introduced to shooting public in2008. It is a product of the US-based subsidiary of famous Belgiancompany FN Herstal, the FN Manufacturing Co. The FNAR rifle is based onthe proven and quite popular FN / Browning BAR hunting rifle (which, infact, has no relations to the original Browning BAR M1918 rifle of WW2fame). The Browning BAR high-power hunting rifle was first announced inBelgium in 1968, and is still in production in many versions, althoughall those rifles were and still are optimized for hunting. There wereat least some attempts to produce 'tactical' versions of the BAR rifle, especially in some of the more powerful calibers such as .300Winchester Magnum, but most if not all such guns were after-marketcustom jobs. The FNAR takes the concept of the 'tactical BAR rifle' tothe new level, as it is a standard factory offering, produced in USAand offered for civilian, law enforcement and security shooters whomight want or need a modern, rapid-firing, hard-hitting and accuraterifle. The factory literature advertises FNAR as 'guaranteed for 1 MOAaccuracy or better', and this is a good result for a relativelylightweight semi-automatic rifle.

The FN FNAR is agas-operated semi-automatic rifle. The short-stroke gas piston islocated below the barrel and concealed within a stock. Barrel is lockedusing rotary bolt with multiple lugs. Receiver is machined fromaircraft-grade aluminum alloy, polymer stock has an adjustablebuttstock and pistol grip. Feed is from detachable box magazines, holding 10 or 20 rounds of 7.62mm ammunition. Rifle is available in twobasic versions, with heavy- or lightweight fluted barrels. There are noopen / iron sights installed by default; Each FNAR rifle is fitted withPicatinny type rail on the top of the receiver, and three more shortrails are insralled at the front of the rifle stock.
