Sako TRG M10 sniper rifle was developed for the US SOCOM “Precision sniper rifle” requirements that were originally issued in 2009. The TRG M10 rifle has lost the trials to Remington rifle, but it was put into production, initially to be offered only for “government” clients. However, recently it was also offered for civilian rifle market.

Sako TRG M10 sniper rifle is a modular, multi-caliber rifle. It is offered in three basic calibers, which can be easily swapped in the field by changing out barrels, bolts and magazines. In each caliber, barrels are available in several lengths. An interesting aspect of the design is that every caliber-depending component is specially marked so user can recognize caliber of each part visually or by the touch. For example, .308 barrel and bolt are marked with single annual grove, .300WM components are marked with two groves and .338LM with three. Magazines are marked with appropriate number of large dots embossed into the sides of polymer baseplate. Another interesting feature of the TRG M10 rifle is that all tools necessary to change the caliber are built into the each bolt handle – the small torx key is built into the center of the bolt knob, and barrel wrench is integrated into the base of the bolt handle. Additional set of torx keys, necessary for full disassembly of the gun, are stored inside a small, detachable polymer forend.

Sako TRG M10 sniper rifle is a manually operated bolt action rifle. It uses rotary bolt with three radial locking lugs at the front. Receiver is of all-steel design. Manual safety is located inside the trigger guard, in front of the trigger. Double-stack, single feed detachable box magazines hold between 5 and 10 rounds, depending on the caliber. Shoulder stock is of side-folding design, and is fully adjustable without any tools. Free-floated barrel is enclosed inside detachable aluminum alloy barrel jacket with full-length Picatinny rails at the top and at the bottom. Barrel jacket is drilled and tapped to accept additional lengths of the Picatinny rails at both sides, as required. Barrels can be equipped with special muzzle brakes that have mounting interface for quick-detach sound suppressors (silencers).
