Benelli M2 shotgun is an improved version of the previous Benelli M1 Super 90 shotgun, and M2 has replaced the M1 in Benelli's product line since about 2004. Benelli M2 features same inertia-driven action as the M1, but it also features ergonomically improved stock (with optional patented ComforTech recoil reduction system, that consists of two gel-filled pads in the buttstock),specially treated barrels and a number of smaller but still useful improvements. Benelli M2 shotguns are manufactured in hunting configurations (with wooden or polymer stocks and with variety of barrel lenghts and profiles) as well as in Tactical configurations(suitable for home defense, law enforcement use and practical sport shooting), also in a number of stock variations.
Benelli M2shotgun is a semi-automatic weapon that uses inertia-driven action, developed by Benelli engineers back in 1980s and first used in the Benelli M1 Super 90shotguns. This system features rotary bolt locking, and uses heavy boltcarrier in conjunction with heavy action spring, located inside the bolt carrier, to accumulate inertia energy of the bolt group during initial recoil and then use it to unlock the bolt. The return spring is located in the steel tube that runs through the buttstock thus precluding use of folding stocks or stock-less configurations. Feed is from tubular magazine, which can be extended for bigger capacity using special screw-on adapters. Stock is made from polymer and featuresspecial texture for improved grip. In Tactical models, sights are of rifle type style.
