MPAR-556 semi-automatic rifle is a product of the American gun-making company Masterpiece Arms, which was previously known mostly for high quality semi-automatic clones of old Ingram M10 and M11 submachine gun. MPAR-556 semi-automatic rifle was first announced at ShotShow-2013, and entered production by late 2013. In 2014, Masterpiece Arms announced a version of the MPAR rifle firing more powerful 6.8×43 Rem SPC ammunition.

MPAR-556 rifle is intended mostly for use by civilians as a hunting, sporting and home defense weapon, but it also can be used for police applications. The MPAR-556 rifle is broadly based on the Australian-made Leader Dynamics T2 Mk5 / AAA Leader SAR rifle, which went out of production in mid-1990s.

MPAR-556 rifle is gas operated, semi-automatic weapon. It uses short-stroke gas piston, located above the barrel, and employs rotary bolt locking, with triangular-shaped bolt face, which forms three radial locking lugs. Bolt carrier is of generally rectangular shape and rides on dual guide rods, which also host captive dual return spring setup. During field stripping procedure bolt group along with guide rods, returns springs and backplate is removed from the rifle as a single unit. Upper receiver is made from commercially available steel tubing of rectangular cross-section; lower receiver is made from stamped and formed sheet steel. Receiver halves are hinged at the front using removable cross-pin. Charging handle is located on the left side of the receiver, and does not move when gun is fired. Rifle is equipped with integral top Picatinny rail running the length of the receiver and aluminum alloy forend; this allows to install many types of sights (iron, red dot, telescope) according to user preferences. Additional Picatinny rails can be installed by user on the forend at its sides and bottom. Standard shoulder stock is of side-folding, adjustable design. It folds forward and to the right, and the gun can be fired with stock in folded position. MPAR-556 rifle is compatible with M16/Ar15-type box magazines.
