The 7.62×17 Type 64 cartridge was developed during early 1960s in China for use in Type 64 suppressed 9silenced) pistol. It is based on, and is very similar to 7.65×17 Browning (.32ACP), but has no protruding rim, and is not interchangeable with its parent. Type 84 cartridge uses same case but is loaded with lightweight, low penetration bullet for use by onboard security on civilian aircrafts.
