.22LR, or .22 Long Rifle cartridge (metric designation 5.6x16mm RF) is one of the oldest types of ammunition still in widespread use. First introduced in around 1887 for use in small-bore rifles (hence its name), today it is widely used for target shooting, low-cost practice, plinking and hunting small game.
It is also, last but not least, used in certain ‘special’ applications where its low report and high accuracy are favored, especially for use in suppressed (silenced) weapons. A great many versions of this round are produced worldwide.
