LWRCI SMG-45 submachine gun and semi-automatic handgun (USA)

The LWRCI SMG-45 submachine gun is produced in USA by LWRC International. It is available in select-fire “military / law enforcement only” version, as well as in civilian-legal semi-automatic ‘handgun’, fitted with so-called ‘arm brace’ instead of the conventional shoulder stock.

LWRCI SMG-45 submachine gun is described on company website as having “Short Recoil Delayed Blowback Operating System”, but examination of the user manual suggests that it uses short recoil operated, locked breech action. Bolt, which has part of its mass located in the front of the breech face, is locked to the barrel using collar-shaped yoke, placed around the barrel near its breech end. This yoke is permitted to slide up and down. When gun is ready to fire, yoke is forced up by the ramp in the receiver, and its upper end enters the cut in the bolt, effectively locking the breech. Upon recoil after the shot yoke is forced down by the inclination of the feed ramp in receiver, unlocking the bolt after the sort recoil travel together with barrel. This system is somewhat similar in concept with old Bergmann M1903 Mars pistol or more modern Strike One pistol. Gun fires from closed bolt, using AR-15 / M16 type trigger with ambidextrous safety / fire selector lever. Ammunition is fed from polymer magazines, compatible with HK UMP-45 submachine gun. Non-reciprocating charging handle can be set up on either side of the forend. Bolt hold-open device has ambidextrous release levers, paddle style magazine catch is located below the mag well and is easily accessible by either hand. Gun is normally equipped with Magpul iron sights, and has an integral Picatinny rail for simple installation of red dot sights. Military style SMG-45 submachine guns are normally equipped with side-folding skeletonized shoulder stock. Civilian semi-automatic guns are fitted with SB Tactical Sub Gun Brace.
